A concept that dates back to a 1997 Sun Microsystem Laboratory, the Sun Ray project, codename NetWorkTerminal, started as an effort to create a client that was smaller and quieter at a lower cost.
Bringing into being the Sun Ray in 1999, it soon developed into a versatile and high-performing masterpiece which redefined commercial computing systems. Continuing to be perfected and developed by Oracle until 2014, the Sun Ray 2 was highly popular due to its smaller footprint, low power usage and convenience.
Different from what we call a “thick client,” the Ray is designed for networked-display only. In this way, you are able to move from Sun Ray to Sun Ray without ending your session. This type of functionality fit perfectly into the corporate world, where dozens of computers need to have access to similar sessions and this portability.
While Oracle announced in 2013 that they are ending development of the Sun Ray, we are still producing refurbished Sun servers and Sun workstations at Server Worlds. With all the parts necessary to maintain your system, keeping it up-to-date and up-to-par, we have what it takes to create a system that can set your business’s operating system apart.
