Poweredge R720 Servers

The PowerEdge R720/R720XD is a staple in the 12th generation of Dell Servers.

They are highly scalable servers that support up to 2 x E5-2600 CPU's and 768GB

of DDR3 ECC Reg Memory.  The optional Drac 7 Enterprise you can schedule

system hardware updates during designated maintenance/reboot times.  PowerEdge

R720's are 2U servers that have 4 different chassis styles that can accomplish pretty

much any server need. 

 

PowerEdge R720 Chassis:

 

  • 8 Bay 3.5" Chassis
  • 8 Bay 2.5" Chassis (optional 8 bay backplane to get 16 2.5" Slots)
  • 12 Bay 3.5" Chassis  (XD Model)
  • 24 Bay 2.5" Chassis (XD Model)

 

The PowerEdge R720XD models are also available for clients that need

Q&A:

 

I need one of these servers as fast as possible.  How long does it take to ship?

Can extend my raid volume using an H710 Controller?

It depends on your existing raid configuration.  Raid 5 will allow you to extend the volume.  Raid 6 and 10

allow you to extend the volume.

 

What is the max memory that the PowerEdge R720/R720XD can support?

Up to 768GB DDR3 ECC Reg Memory.  There are 24 total slots.

 

Can I upgrade to E5-2600 V2 Processors in my PowerEdge R720/R720XD?

You must have a Gen II System board to install E5-2600 V2 Processor.  You can pull out the plastic

server tag tab on the front of your system chassis to confirm with generation that you have.  If the

plastic tab has a "II" on it, you have a Gen 2 chassis.
